I finished the Digital Pro Secrets book. Lots of good stuff there, but I'm only ready to use a part of it so far. I broke down this morning and ordered a straightforward book simply on my camera, that should help me use the settings more easily. So many choices.

One of the particularly nice aspects of digital SLRs is that you get to see the f-stop and shutter speed on each pic. No more need to carry around little notebooks.

So today's destination is to Lopez Lake, where I will simply take some pix with the tripod, varying shutter speed and aperture. Oh yeah, and "film speed" (ISO). That should be enough to find out a thing or two.

I wish we could take a class together...that would be fun.

Yes, I think it would. I have this sketchy feeling that I'm learning a bit by accident right now. It would be nice to have a more specific approach, like a class. And fortunately, my lighting class starts soon enough, on July 5.

Speaking of that, how about going to betterphoto.com and taking a look at the classes they offer? They are all online, but what attracted me particularly is that you submit your assignments and get critiques and suggestions. I think that will be really valuable. They aren't dirt cheap but they aren't impossible to afford, either. And I have read elsewhere that these courses are well-regarded.

If you felt like taking a class there...maybe we could take it together!

I'd love to sign up but the price is not managable right now. Maybe later.
Don't count me out just yet.

Believe me, I do understand. I am lucky to have a little extra right now so I can do this. I also investigated classes by a terrific photographer right in this area, and they were really really expensive! Generally over $1,000 per. I would love to do that but can't see the way yet.

I also expect I'll be able to keep taking the betterphoto classes from time to time, so let's keep talking!

Which better photo class do you want to sign up for first? My b-day is soon and I may get cash gifts from family so maybe...keep your fingers crossed!

I need to learn how to use the video feature on my Nikon 8700. And a zillion other things.

I already signed up for the one on light. Mastering Light. It's one of the 8-week classes. Starts on July 5.

Zillion is about right, me too.
