I took the camera out this afternoon, to highway 166 in the early afternoon, from there to the Village of Arroyo Grande, and later to downtown SLO. I learned a few things that I did not know. That is, I learned that I did not know how to do a thing or two. That's good. While I was downtown I went to Barnes & Noble and grabbed a bunch of books on digital photography from the shelves. I sat down to look them over. None were outstanding, most had nothing really to offer me. Tonight I have been going back and forth from the Pro Secrets book to the Canon manual, and I have tried a few things out. I really think the best thing for me to do is to do one thing, like close-up photography (as much as is possible with a 50 mm lens). In fact, given that I can control it best, that might just be the thing I do first, trying different apertures and shutter speeds and angles, with and without a tripod. Tomorrow: clear off the dining room table! Do it!
