On my way home from work today I was driving up Broad Street toward Orcutt. A car, a Toyota Tercel, pulled into my lane in front of me, cutting so close I had to brake. As if I weren't even there. But right behind this vehicle was a police car, which safely entered my lane and turned on its lights, pulling that car over. I felt a great deal of satisfaction about that.

Also on the way home, I was listening to the radio, to the Randi Rhodes show. And she was talking about a report issued today by a Michigan congressman, that says that in the week before the Americans "handed over" power to the Iraqis last year, the Americans took 20 billion - billion - in CASH - from the Iraqi treasury and handed it out to contractors. The contractors were told to bring duffel bags.

As she repeated this story I got angrier and angrier. First, what will the mainstream media do with it? Will they have any guts? And second, where the hell is our legal system? The money was intended to go to the Iraqi people.

This, of course, is standard practice, according to that rather revealing book, Confessions of an Economic Hitman.

What continues to amaze me is that so many United States citizens believe this country goes to war for good. To do good.
