I went hiking earlier today, up Stoneridge. When I got to the top, I saw a group of people, a family-type group, and at their side was a cat! A black and white spotted one, walking alongside rather like a dog might. I asked about it. They told me it isn't even their own cat, it lives at the bottom of the hill and likes to join them when they go up the hill. So it had come with them all the way and was accompanying them back down again.

I was wondering if maybe the cat thinks these people are its kittens, in a way, and it is showing them how to hunt or find things in the wild hills. The people said it would veer off the path, take off this way and that, and then come back to them.

I wish I had taken a picture. It is a vivid memory.
