I did the Maino open space hike. It is perhaps my favorite, and it is one that I can do without a hiking stick. I feel like I need a stick for some of the others, for there are a few slippery spots where it would be very helpful. It was a beautiful day, and the birds were singing, it seemed like in a round or maybe some kind of canon, where one picks up a little later and carries it, then another chimes in. I tried to find the birds that were doing the most elaborate songs but didn't find them all. I don't think they are trying to be inconspicious, just the opposite really. I would have done better with binoculars. I did pass a couple of people who were carrying binoculars, one with the type carrier that i want, that holds them to your chest when you are not using them. I want one of those for my camera and for the binoculars I don't yet have.

I have been reading some J.D. Salinger - Raise High the Roof Beams, Carpenters, and Seymour, and Introduction. In Seymour, he offers his idea of what his typical reader is like. This reader loves birds. How that made me laugh, as I thought about my bird feeders, the many pictures I have taken of birds, how they lift my spirits just to listen, to watch their little crazed bodies, hearts beating furiously, temperatures like an oven.
