It cost less than I expected. Yay!
I also need to install a new flapper in the toilet. I bought it already.
I've had to deal with a number of issues today at work, so have been pulled this way and that. it does feel satisfying, really, to be able to do it, to help people, to settle things, to respond, to feel useful.
