pepys and hoaxes

Well, Pepys' diary is now on my friends list. Is this surreal?

I just read of a young (?) woman faked having cancer and dying here in LJ...

Some people don't get enough drama, I guess. But Pepys! How funny to read his lines interspersed with those of others. They do fit right in.

I had an internet friend do that to me and a couple other of her so-called friends. My suster died of cancer and I shared this with her. She then told me she was getting ready to move out of her boyfriend's to go back home for cancer treatments because she was no longer in remission. I was affronted with grief and saddness and misery at the prospects of this nice woman dealing with cancer in her mid twenties. I even cried as she IM'd me with the details. When I asked her what kind of cancer she had she told me cervical. CERVICAL!!! I thought, christ, she's out of remission and waiting all this time to go home and "decide" what treatment to do...a certain death sentence. And she had diabetes, just like my sister. She also claimed to have an eating disorder and was so frail with bones bumbing into counters and causinf evening more pain. Of course, I found out a year later it was all a hoax. That this woman was not a cancer survivor but a psychopath and pathological liar. She never had cancer, nor diabetes. She is a lush that reinvents herself to gain sympathy and forge bonds. Sick girl. I will never forgive her the pain she put me through and made me relive, and the trust she disrespected.

I read a book on psychopaths that said that all of us are affected by these people at some time in our lives. They can be so convincing. They really know how to act, the right words to say, and it all means nothing to them. It's the joy of manipulation.

How horrible for you that you got sucked in this way. I have a friend to whom I introduced a man I had known only a short while, because I thought they would hit it off. They did. Over time, though, I became increasingly alarmed, and finally we both saw that he was a psychopath who had used her horribly. I feel badly for making that introduction, even though she does not blame me for it. She has certainly blocked herself from meeting other men now, though.
