airbrush tans and boy meets boy

Stuck in today's world of television am I. Last night I watched a policeman get an airbrush tan. Then I saw that the tanning salon in Pismo offers airbrush tans. I thought about that, about who, why...what the hell...

Tonight I have been drawn to Boy meets Boy again, irritated and pissy though I am at the format. Starting with fifteen totally gorgeous successful young men, some of which are straight. Eliminating them a little at a time, each time with a glass of wine going to the "winners". Little contrived things like horseback rides and picnic lunches, affording opportunities for "one-on-ones", times when they ask each other questions, really.

The whole idea of fifteen men competing for one, as if that one is somehow better than any of the fifteen. It makes no real sense. And how can you get to know someone in a week, surrounded by cameras, competitors, absurd situations?

One of the guys who was just unchosen said, in his parting words, that he was honored to be part of the great experiment, thought it would be good for the gay community. Maybe, but it really seems to underline a lot of the stereotypes instead.

True! Why don't they try and find good qualities in each other? I'm sure they do anyway. I wonder if there is a cash prize at the end.

There were some hints of other-coupling happening. I found that gratifying, and hope that those who were interested pursued that interest.

I wonder what these folks would do with people like me: not particularly glamorous, older, not as fit as we'd like to be. No horseback riding. No jumping from airplanes (I don't know if any dating shows have actually done that), no opportunities for showing off our buffed bodies.

They'd have us go out to dinner at a nice place. Maybe we'd shoot some pool or play some kind of video game. Some deal where we use a substitute person to do the physical stuff. Maybe this is why not so many older people show up there...or maybe it's just because some of us have actually gained a little wisdom over the years and know how stupid it is.

Still. Sometimes I think about it, about being on one of these shows. Not like Boy meets Boy, not the competition, but the other type, where they match you.

I think don't have regular people like us on these shows because we're not dramatic enough. I think most of the people who are on these shows are aspiring actors or models who think of it as a chance to be discovered. Actors tend to be dramatic and silly.

I read there is a money prize. And a deception. Not all the boys are gay, some are straight. Part of the show is to see how many straight boys are eliminated. These reality TV shows are so stupid.
