I'm looking to get into my computer again this weekend, install an Ultra ATA card, something I don't' fully understand even yet. Hoping this is what takes my hard drive and gives it freedom and keeps my cursor from stalling, settling on a sheep on my wallpaper and not getting off.

I hope I grasp every part of this procedure. I have to set the computer so that it will boot from the card, not from the motherboard. Then install the card, possibly reset the jumpers on both hard drives to "cable select", or otherwise just keep them as they are, master and slave. Plug in the drives, turn on the computer, then use the software that came with the card. Asking myself, there are warnings on the card documentation, back up everything on the drive. Will I need to reformat just because I am moving the drives? That does not make sense to me.

Or how about this. Install the card, plug in the slave drive only, leave the master where it is, turn on the computer, see if I can configure the card. Then set computer to boot from card, install larger drive...I don't know if this makes any sense.

Maybe I'll go check in at PC Mechanic first, see if anyone there has some sage advice for me. AT least they should be able to answer the question about the reformatting.
