Back to soup and painkillers

I had a consultation with the implant dentist this morning. He said the bone that grew from the bone grafting was less than the optimum he'd hoped for. It is adequate for smaller implants - shorter - but because those teeth are at the back of my mouth and at the bottom they take a lot of grinding. He said he is inclined to "overbuild", that he would be happy to install the shorter implants if that is my choice. I could read between the lines, that he would prefer not to install those, that they may not serve me for the rest of my life, which is the goal.

I am not in a hurry. Another option is to do the bone grafting again, exactly the same as before - but at no additional cost to me. I went for this. I want as much a chance at success as I can get, and I can use the additional time to find the money for the implants.

I am scheduled to go in on April 1 for the surgery. This means going home with painkillers and ice packs and laying low the rest of that day, eating soup and other liquid things, trying not to move my mouth much. I think I know enough this time to be extremely careful that day and the following several days. I can't say I look forward to undergoing the surgery again but I am such an old hand at it I could almost perform it myself.
