Ah Beethoven

I am listening to the third movement of Beethoven's Appassionata sonata and it is distracting me in the best way. Mari Kodama again, wondrous pianist.

This afternoon I will go hear the Emperor concerto, with Jeffrey Kahane playing and conducting, final concert of the Mozart Festival. So much Beethoven, so little time.

(no subject)

Beethoven, then Schumann, then dinner with Dorothy at Big Sky. Nice afternoon.

The hall was sold out, as I figured it would be. Enthusiastic crowd. The concerto just sounded (and looked) wonderful. Good balance, full beautiful orchestra, wonderful piano. It was a kick watching Kahane conduct from the piano. I figure it takes a certain personality to pull that off, and that personality needs to be outgoing, first-off. Kahane is a favorite with the locals because he comes here year after year, and he's got such a great personality to go with his musical ability. I think the festival musicians have always been good but seem to keep getting better.
