I'm looking to get into my computer again this weekend, install an Ultra ATA card, something I don't' fully understand even yet. Hoping this is what takes my hard drive and gives it freedom and keeps my cursor from stalling, settling on a sheep on my wallpaper and not getting off.

I hope I grasp every part of this procedure. I have to set the computer so that it will boot from the card, not from the motherboard. Then install the card, possibly reset the jumpers on both hard drives to "cable select", or otherwise just keep them as they are, master and slave. Plug in the drives, turn on the computer, then use the software that came with the card. Asking myself, there are warnings on the card documentation, back up everything on the drive. Will I need to reformat just because I am moving the drives? That does not make sense to me.

Or how about this. Install the card, plug in the slave drive only, leave the master where it is, turn on the computer, see if I can configure the card. Then set computer to boot from card, install larger drive...I don't know if this makes any sense.

Maybe I'll go check in at PC Mechanic first, see if anyone there has some sage advice for me. AT least they should be able to answer the question about the reformatting.

Well, good. I posted my questions to PC Mechanic. I can go about my business and the results will come in. Smart move, I think.

Often, of course, I find that the questions I should have asked are those I never would have thought of.

K and I went hiking today, along a creek near the ocean. Lovely trail, well-marked, didn't really need the guide (although I always like to know where I'm going and how far it is). It was a five mile round trip, and I handled it. My legs both feel like they've had better days but it wasn't one of those "just one more step" kind of things. I could not have done a hike with much elevation, that long, without suffering a lot more, but I'm glad I could do this.

There was a good response, one good reply, to my questions about the hard drive card, so I will sooner or later embark on that adventure. In the meantime I have been trying to clear up domain stuff for the beat hotel, which should be in the right place now but I haven't been able to confirm. So many mistakes I've made along the line. I am really hoping to get that all working by the end of today, and be able to upload files and create new ones tomorrow.
