Holding onto the energy

I am going to Las Vegas tomorrow. My friend Phyllis will come to check in on the cats each day Friday, Saturday, Sunday. She has never been to my place so I want it to look as good as I can. Right now I have the energy, I am feeling up, positive, ready to go, so that means a fair amount of energy. What I wonder is how long it will last. I have gone from a state of near-depression to almost high since I worked out the problems with going on this trip but these highs are so fragile. I need the energy to do a decent job on the house before I leave.

one step, two

The kitchen floor is clean (although pitted floors don't generally look all that great) and the kitchen table is cleared except for those things I am taking with me to LV. I vacuumed most of the living room rug, am working my way around there.

I think it will be okay. I will have it looking not great but better, good enough. I still need to clean up the litter box so at least it has a fresh start. Simba is quite the pee-artist, though. Pees way more than the normal cat. And there's nothing that shows up in tests (checked for diabetes) so I guess it's just the way he is. But it makes even the formerly care-free littermaid not so care-free. I am glad he uses it, anyway.

circuits

Oh yeah, and I managed to flip the circuit breaker twice. When I tried to reheat coffee in the microwave at the same time as I was vacuuming. Twice, same operation. Sometimes I don't learn too quickly.

And here he is!

Mary finally sent me email! And a photo she took of Joey with her new camera. And here it is, cropped a little and shrunk a little:

Oh yeah. I think that's a pair of boxers he's holding...

changes in the works

I just got a call from Mary. Her car overheated again. This is the third time. The last two meant new water pumps (twice) and head gaskets (once). Apparently the damned mechanics have still not found the real cause of this overheating. This time this new mechanic says maybe the thermostat. That would do it, all right, and we can hope that is it. I told Mary find a mechanic with the auto club certification. That would give her something, anyway, some basic protection.

She also asked me about the hair stylist who did her hair last. This person was imported to work at the Palms, the new local casino near the Rio, by the wife of the owner. So Mary said she's really good. And really expensive. Mary had her hair done there by way of someone's comp and she has another comp for me. So I said yes! Make an appointment! Who knows what will come of it? But hey, hair grows. And I have a lot of it.

Actually got a little aerobic there

Over the afternoon I have alternated between cleaning and writing here and answering email and then going out to check on the camera that hasn't been delivered yet. So for the most part my housework activity has not risen to the level of aerobic. But in the last several minutes it seems to have. I fixed the slipcover on the couch, moved furniture (not heavy ones), threw stuff away, picked things off the floor, back and forth enough so that it felt like I was actually breathing some. The living room and kitchen look a lot better. Yet "shabby" is really the word you'd be searching for. And NOT shabby chic. More like shabby yeek.
