more mac woes

Today I spent the afternoon at the Apple store. I emerged after five with a new mouse and a new operating system. And yet when I came home and opened the computer and turned it on it froze again. I suspect that I will have to bring it back again tomorrow and simply get a replacement. This being the case, I don't want to install anything on it. Not much point. So I am feeling frustrated.

Somehow until yesterday, I missed the fact that you got a mac. I have not experienced this sort of problem with mine. What sort of mac did you acquire? the solution is probably something simple .. the most frustrating problems are usually caused by something blindingly simple ..

It had two problems, both having to do with starting. One is that when I pressed the button to turn it on nothing happened. As if the button itself were defective. When it did turn on, and started up, it did not finish. That little turning wheel got stuck, frozen, never opening up to my desktop. This happened probably at least 20 times in the last two days.

Fortunately for me, the folks at the apple store saw that it was buggy and agreed with me that the best solution was to give me a new mac. I took it home this morning. I am in the process of installing Leopard, because it's a mac that was at the store prior to Leopard coming out, so they simply stuck the disk in with the computer for us to install ourselves.

So we shall see. I think getting two bad ones in a row is against the laws of chance, so I am hopeful.

.. my first thought was that it was probably a hardware problem, but of course I was going to suggest a way to test that :p

Good luck with Leopard .. I know you will like your mac once you master right is left and left is right

Well, hopefully they can fix it for you or get you a new one. When you do get it working, I expect lots of strange YouTube videos from you with cats jumping and playing.
