I'm curious about some differences in airlines. On American the seats are tight (no legroom), you get nonalcoholic drinks for free but have to pay for cashews ($3), there are no amenities. On JetBlue you get leg room, free satellite tvs on each seat, as many free snacks as you can eat. What's up here? Oh yes, and the JetBlue prices tend to be lower. How's that work? Someone tell me? I am not believing that American takes better care of its employees. Just don't think so.

American offers first class and Jet Blue doesn't. Also, Jet Blue doesn't overbook as much as American does. And Jet Blue won't let pets travel as cargo (which I think it a smart move on their part) but American allows pets as cargo. Both airlines allow pets in the cabin for a fee and have lots of special rules, but American charges more for the privilege.

That only compounds the question. My question is why American can't do what JetBlue does. Paul says it's because American is bound by contracts it made before deregulation and JetBlue and Southwest are not. JetBlue and Southwest do not have union contracts. I think it goes beyond that and into the basic philosophies and operating characteristics of these airlines. I would love to see a study.

Don't think I would choose American
After reading that why would one want to fly American unless it was the only choice. One of the many jobs I have done was reservation agent for a Canadian airline, so I know a little about the differences in their services.

I found you via my Others Online widget. We are both female and same age so there is a connection. I have traveled quite a bit and enjoy blogging and computers.

My online name is Vic Grace and my blog is http://caribooponderer.blogspot.com which is all about life in a very small rural village in north central British Columbia. I live on the edge of the wilderness and count grizzly bears, black bears, wolves and other wildlife as my close neighbours. Do pop over sometime.
