And speaking of costco. When I got out of the car I heard the birds. Birds in the little trees (costco is new there and the trees are just getting started) and on the rooftops. Chirping like crazy. It was a wonderful sound and unexpected, although I should expect such things by now.

many of those birds have found their way into our costco next door, fluttering frantically near the huge ceiling. i don't think they ever leave. :/

Oh, I've seen them inside, too. I hope they do find a way out eventually. Or at least find food...of which there is plenty there.

small birds...
I find it interesting that birds that I think should be heading south are sticking around the local area. I wonder if this is a sign of global warming?

Could be in some cases. Not in this one. These birds weren't that small. That was one thing I was noticing, that they weren't the usual sparrows but larger, more a "medium-size" bird. When they were clustered in one of these small newly-planted trees they practically brought it down.

Also in this case we see the birds year-round. It just doesn't get cold enough - in spite of my whining about the cold.
