Something got into my computer. Spyware. It replaced my wallpaper with a web page that says "Your computer is infected!" and has a link to "highly rated spyware removal programs". Ha. I ran one spyware detection program and got rid of the program that had installed itself but it did not remove that wallpaper and all of the usual techniques don't seem to get at it. I am currently running another program. Both recommended by gizmo, the tech guy...oh wait...it worked!! It cleaned it up! Ihave my personal wall paper back!

hijacked...
You were victim of a browser hijack, a recent malady of spyware. If gizmo hasn't told you yet, you probably have to clean your machine every other day, as the spyware morphs and finds new ways to infect daily. Best of luck staying spyware free.

Re: hijacked...
No kidding! Here I thought I was reasonably well protected. Shows what I know. At least it didn't do any damage. I'll just have to get into the habit of running at least one of these programs often.

I really feel sorry for those who may not have enough knowledge or memory to know that they've been had. These would be the ones who send out the warnings of computer viruses without checking if they are hoaxes or not. Would also be people like one of my daughters, who might see the big message, "Your computer is infected!" and think it is legit. This one was really ugly, installing a program on my computer and even adding a shortcut to it.
