I'm in a coffee place with free wireless. busy but not too. A promising location for the novel.

I am thinking I will do a lot of fleshing out today because I don't know where my characters are going. The story reads quite abruptly, more like a short story, so there is a lot of detail I can fill in.

I ran into a wall last night. I realized my characters needed some subplots, and I started one up, but it was a walk in the dark.

I guess I'll sleep on it tonight and try again in the morning.

Fleshing out at times is crucial--

so much of this thing is so boring! I have to talk myself out of fretting about it.

I can't expect it to fly winningly from my fingers so easily, after all.

I have a mini-deadline: I told my daughter mary that she could read the first 10,000 words when I have them written, which should be by tomorrow night. She's always kind. She might even say something that sends me off on a different path, which wouldn't be a bad thing.
