I'm depressed about this election. I had reached a point where I was hoping that Americans were starting to see straight. I was wrong.

I came close. It helped to go to a Dem election party, even though most of us were not exactly cheering. I got to meet and talk with three people who invited me to join their table, and we had a nice conversation and shared our feelings.

I have met a number of people through these various activities and hope to be able to meet up with them again, often.

Regardless of who wins, and its not entirely certain yet, the 50/50 split would still exist and whoever is President is going to have to deal with that.

Even though it looks like the religiously persuaded were hooked out on things like the gay marrieage question the rest of the population, the population of California if nowhere else in the US, can't be ignored.

I have my own reservations, doubts and actual fears. I'm ignoring them today, after all there's nothing that I can do about them.

I am trying not to be overwhelmed by the possibilities this election raises. The Supreme Court, the congress, all leaning one way.

My main hope is that some of their destructive behavior will come home to roost.

I have seriously been thinking about this very question! How far we have slipped! I suspect that a lot of people are more interested in The Fear Factor than in who is president.

I strongly believe that the only way to maintain a truly democratic society is to have educated, informed citizens. We don't, or not enough of us.

I think September 11 put people back into some "old fashioned values" mind set. It's as if people think that if they act like Leave It To Beaver families then they are safe.

(by the way, I made a new journal and added you to it "rismac" I am thinking of keeping it for family members to see. I'll still use this one though.)
